Loneliness

The United Kingdom is experiencing a loneliness epidemic!

At FoodCycle, we believe in the power of good food to nourish communities and reduce loneliness. That’s why we serve weekly, free, community meals for anyone who wishes to join.

Our Recipes for Community campaign is about sharing stories of loneliness and its impact, but also celebrating communal eating as a solution.

Jean, who features in Adrian Fisk's film, is one of hundreds of FoodCycle guests who knows what it’s like to feel lonely. Indeed, half of FoodCycle’s guests live alone and 72% say they have often felt lonely.

The community meal that FoodCycle provides offers people the chance break bread, enjoy the company of others and to make friends in their local area. In a society that is becoming increasingly lonely, eating together and being nourished physically and emotionally, is a valuable tool.

Food sparks connection with others, inspires conversations and gives us all a chance to forget our troubles for a while.

Adrian, who is represented by Raccoon London, has made a film that brilliantly reflects what life can be like for those living with loneliness and how FoodCycle is tackling this dibilitating condition by working to nourish communities and relieve loneliness across the country.
