Mary Hare Primary Appeal
We want to build a new Primary School for profoundly and severely deaf children because the building that currently houses our Primary School is very old and not the best building for our young deaf pupils. Children come to us because they need specialist support from our qualified teachers of the deaf, speech & language therapists and audiologists.
We have been teaching deaf children since 1886. We are the largest school for deaf children in the UK and pupils range from 5 to 19 years of age. We teach deaf children using the very best in technology to overcome the barriers presented by their deafness. Pupils learn through spoken and written English.
The children joining us find themselves part of a large cohort of deaf peers where they make lots of friends. The script for our appeal video was written by the Primary School pupils who were delighted to have the opportunity to tell others why they love their school – and what they want to see in their new school!
Mary Hare’s principal aim is that deaf children are given every opportunity to fulfil their potential – academically, socially and ultimately in the workplace. We give deaf children a voice.
