What's Your Semi Colon?
GRIT Charity addresses the increasing pressures that teenagers face which can result in low self-esteem and anxiety. This can lead to self-destructive behaviour, distressing for both the teenager and those close to them. Inspired by the global Semi-Colon movement promoting hope to those struggling with depression and anxiety, our What’s Your Semi Colon? film asks how you can turn negative emotion into positive action. The film explores how self destructive or harmful behaviour can be replaced with positive coping mechanisms. It shows some of the activities offered by the GRIT program, including exercise, to help channel and focus overwhelming emotion, combined with therapeutic interventions to help boost self-esteem and confidence. The highlight of the film is hearing from Olympic Team GB boxer Jordan Reynolds. He explains in a few short sentences how, as a teenager he was overwhelmed with destructive feelings of anger, frustration and low confidence, but overcame those struggles and is now determined to love and be happy whatever life throws at him. Confident in his ability to recover from adversity and prepared to seek new experiences and opportunities to achieve his goals, he is a perfect role model for teenagers struggling today.
